MEN’S BASKETBALL SIGNS GUARDS RICK BARROS III AND RAAZHEL WATKINS

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State 11th-year head men's basketball coach Brian Katz announced the program has inked guards Rick Barros III and Raazhel Watkins, the first two signees of the Hornets' 2019-20 recruiting class. Barros will enroll as a freshman, and Watkins will enroll as a junior.

Barros played this past season at Nation Wide Academy in Oklahoma City after spending his junior and senior seasons of prep ball at Capital Christian High School in Sacramento. Watkins spent two seasons at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, Calif., after prepping at College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, Calif.

Rick Barros III
• A 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard from Sacramento. Will enroll at Sacramento State as a freshman.
• Versatile guard that can play three positions on the perimeter.
• Played this past season at Nation Wide Prep Academy in Oklahoma City where he averaged 20.2 points, 4.1 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 51% from the field and 35% from the 3-point line.
• A local product, Barros spent his junior and senior seasons at Capital Christian High School in Sacramento, and his freshman and sophomore years at Sacramento Country Day School.
• Played all four years of high school ball on the varsity level.
• Named all-league during each of his four years of high school, including the league MVP as a sophomore at Country Day.
• During his two years at Capital Christian, he helped the team to a 2017 Sac-Joaquin Div. III section championship and a 2018 semifinal appearance at the Sac-Joaquin Div. I sections.
• Over those two years, the team won a pair of Golden Empire League championships and combined for a 45-17 overall record and 24-0 mark in league play.
• As the team captain during his senior year (2017-18 season), Barros averaged 15.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.6 blocked shots per game while shooting 62% from the field, 45% from the 3-point line and 76% from the free throw line.

Raazhel Watkins
• A 6-foot-1, 165-pound guard from Concord, Calif. Will enroll at Sacramento State as a junior.
• A point guard who can also play at shooting guard. Left-handed shooter.
• Played the last two years at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, Calif.
• Helped lead the Mustangs to a combined 35-21 overall record and 21-11 in the Bay Valley League.
• A first team all-league selection both seasons at Los Medanos.
• This past season, he averaged 21.3 points, 6.3 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 49% (193-391) from the field, 51% (42-83) from the 3-point line and 85% (104-123) from the free throw line.
• Among all community colleges in California, he ranked second in the state in 3-point field goal percentage, and sixth in both scoring and assists.
• As a freshman at Los Medanos in 2017-18, he averaged 15.4 points, 4.2 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 39% (131-336) from the field and 79% (99-125) from the free throw line.
• Played four years at College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, Calif.
• Spent his final three seasons as a starter on the varsity team.
• As a junior, he was named the Diablo Valley Athletic League MVP after averaging 17.8 points per game and leading the Falcons to the DVAL Tournament championship.
• Also an all-league selection as a senior after averaging 16.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game.
