After seeing its four-game winning streak snapped Thursday at Eastern Washington, Sacramento State (10-12, 6-7) travels to the City of Roses where the team will take on Portland State (11-11, 6-7) on Saturday…tip-off at the Stott Center is set for 7:05 p.m…in Thursday's loss, the Hornets nearly came all the way back from a 21-point deficit, slicing the lead to four points but would get no closer…prior to Thursday, the Hornets had won four straight games, their longest winning streak in two years…the loss also snapped a four-game winning streak against Eastern Washington…still, the Hornets have won six of their last 10 conference games after beginning the Big Sky portion of the season with an 0-3 record…with just seven games remaining in the regular season, Sacramento State is currently tied for seventh in the league standings with Portland State and Eastern Washington…however, the Hornets are just one game out of fourth place and two games out of second place…only two games separate second and ninth place in the Big Sky standings, and the top seven teams in the 11-member league qualify for the Big Sky Tournament at the end of the regular season…the Hornets have not played in the league's postseason event since the 2005-06 season…Sacramento State has been good at home (8-2 overall, 5-1 in league), but not so good on the road (2-10 overall, 1-6 in league)…the Hornets suffered their lone conference home loss to Portland State earlier this season in overtime (68-64)…in fact, that's the Hornets' only blemish in their last seven home games…the Vikings are coming off a heartbreaking 65-63 home loss to Northern Arizona on Thursday in which NAU's Kris Yanku made a put-back layin with 0.4 seconds left…PSU has now lost three straight…three of the Vikings' last 10 games have gone into overtime…the Hornets are 11-26 all-time against Portland State…that includes a 1-17 record in Portland, and seven losses in a row when playing the Vikings at the Stott Center…during their seven-game losing streak at the Stott, the Hornets have lost by an average of 19.9 points…the Hornets' last win at the Stott Center came on Feb. 4, 2006 (68-65 victory)…Saturday's contest can be seen live and free on WatchBigSky.com…the game can be heard over the airwaves on KTKZ 1380 AM with 17th-year play-by-play man Steve McElroy calling the action…live stats are available at goviks.com.
