Winners of two straight, and three of the last five, Sacramento State (10-8, 5-5) will travel to Cedar City, Utah, to take on Southern Utah (7-12, 5-5) this Thursday, Jan. 31…tip-off at Centrum Arena is set for 6:05 p.m. PST…the Hornets defeated both North Dakota and Northern Colorado at home last week, and will be looking for their first three-game winning streak since beginning the season with a 3-0 record…after failing to crack the 70-point barrier in any Big Sky game this year, the Hornets put up 79 points in a 79-72 victory on Saturday against Northern Colorado…the Hornets' 10-8 record is their best mark after 18 games since the 2005-06 was 13-5…earlier this season (Jan. 7) at the Nest, Sacramento State defeated Southern Utah by a 64-59 score…in that game, the Hornets led the entire way, attempted a school-record 55 free throws, and nearly let the Thunderbirds steal a win by going 10-for-24 from the free throw line over the game's final 3:19…that contest marked the only time in the last 10 games the Hornets have failed to shoot better than 70 percent from the charity stripe…after missing Thursday's game with a back injury suffered during pregame warmups, sophomore point guard Dylan Garrity came off the bench Saturday to record seven points, nine assists and one turnover in 29 minutes of play…over the last two games, the Hornets are shooting .500 (47-94) from the field, .484 (15-31) from the three-point line and .787 (37-47) from the free throw line…of Sacramento State's 10 conference games thus far, nine have been decided by single digits…at the midway point of the Big Sky season, the Hornets are in a three-way tie for fourth place in the standings with North Dakota and Southern Utah…the top seven teams in the 11-member league qualify for the Big Sky Tournament (March 14-16)…the Hornets are 7-13 all-time against the Thunderbirds, including a 1-9 mark when playing in Cedar City…Sacramento State had lost eight straight on Southern Utah's home floor until a 76-68 win on Dec. 17, 2005…like every conference game, Thursday's contest can be seen live and free on Big Sky TV…the game can also be heard on the internet at www.hornetsports.com with 16th year play-by-play announcer Steve McElroy calling all the action…live stats of the game can be found by clicking here.
