MEN'S BASKETBALL FINAL NON-CONFERENCE TUNEUP COMES SATURDAY AT SAN JOSE STATE

GAME PREVIEW

Sacramento State (5-2) will play its final non-conference tune-up of the season on Saturday, Dec. 8, when the Hornets travel to the Bay Area to take on San Jose State (4-3)…tip-off at The Event Center is scheduled for 4:35 p.m…after Saturday's game, the Hornets will get the next 10 days off before opening Big Sky Conference play at home against Montana State on Wednesday, Dec. 19…the reason for the long layoff in between games is next week is Finals Week at Sacramento State…the Hornets are coming off just their second defeat of the season on Saturday, a 90-70 loss at Arizona State…still, the team's 5-2 record matches the second best mark after seven games in program history (1948-pres.)…the 1985-86 squad began the year with a 6-1 record…should Sacramento State win on Saturday, it would match the best record after eight games in school history (the 1985-86, 1987-88 and 1988-89 teams accomplished the feat), and the best in the Div. I era (1991-pres.)…Sacramento State is currently receiving votes in the collegeinsider.com Mid-Major top 25 poll for the first time since 2005-06…the Hornets are 2-1 on the road this year, which includes a 74-71 win at Utah, and a 71-68 victory at Central Arkansas…after failing to average anything better than 67.0 points each of the last five years, the Hornets are currently averaging a Big Sky-best 78.4 points per game and have yet to score less than 70 points this season…San Jose State is coming off a 73-64 victory at UC Davis on Wednesday, and the team has won four of its last five games…in a series which dates back to 1950, the Hornets are 2-19 all-time against San Jose State…that includes last season's 79-67 loss at The Nest as part of ESPN BracketBusters in which the Spartans outscored the Hornets in the second half, 48-30…Sacramento State is 1-14 against the Spartans when playing in San Jose, including 10 straight losses on SJSU's home floor…the only win in San Jose came in a 57-49 victory on Feb. 12, 1954…San Jose State is providing a live video stream of Saturday's game for a fee…the game can also be heard over the airwaves in the foothills on KAHI 950 AM and on the internet at www.hornetsports.com with 16th year play-by-play announcer Steve McElroy calling all the action…live stats will be offered via www.sjsuspartans.com.
