SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Jimmy White scored 24 points and Raashad Hooks added 11 assists to lead the Sacramento State men’s basketball team to a 97-76 victory over TCS Sunday afternoon at Hornet Gym. The game marked the second and final exhibition contest for the Hornets this season. The team opens the 2002-03 campaign on Monday, Nov. 25, at Loyola Marymount.Sacramento State began the game on a 9-0 run and never looked back. The team pushed its advantage to 10, 18-8, with 13:30 remaining the in the first half before TCS was able to reduce its deficit to six points. The Hornets answered with an 11-3 run and never trailed by less than 10 points for the remainder of the contest.
As a team, Sacramento State shot 50.0 percent (22-44) in the first half and led 54-27 at intermission. White had 16 points in the period on 8-of-11 shooting. In the half, the Hornets tallied 20 assists on their 22 field goals.
Sacramento State led by as many as 32 points in the second half before TCS rallied behind the play of Barry Hodge. The team pulled within 15, 89-74, with 2:55 left on the clock following a three-pointer from Roman Rivera. Hodge led all players with 29 points, including four three pointers. The former San Francisco State player scored 22 points in the second half and ended the game a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line.
Aside from White, the Hornets produced a balanced scoring attack. Nine different Sacramento State players scored in the game, including juniors Tony Champion and Brandon Guyton who finished with 15 and 11 points, respectively. White and freshman Chris Lange led the team with seven rebounds. Freshman point guard DaShawn Freeman contributed nine assists.
