Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Kevin Briggs scored 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field to guide the Portland State Vikings to a 65-52 win over the Sacramento State Hornets in the Big Sky Conference opener for both teams from the Stott Center. Briggs connected on all three of his attempts from beyond the arc, leading Portland State (3-10, 1-0 Big Sky) to 53.7 percent shooting from the field and 50 percent accuracy from three-point range. Seth Scott and Jeb Ivey contributed 16 points apiece, as the Vikings put an end to their six-game losing streak. Derek Lambeth paced Sacramento State (5-8, 0-1) in the loss with 15 points, while Jimmy White chipped in 13 points and six rebounds. Raashad Hooks also tallied double-figures with 10 points, but the Hornets were sent to their fifth consecutive defeat. Portland State bolted out to a 19-9 lead in the first half, but Sacramento State closed the stanza with a 10-3 run to pull to within 22-19 at the intermission. The Hornets opened the second stanza with a 14-8 spurt that gave Sacramento State a 33-30 edge with 13:45 remaining in the game. Portland State still trailed, 42-41, with 8:35 to play, but the Vikings exploded on a 24-10 run down the stretch to notch the 13-point victory. Portland State overcame 20 turnovers to gain the win, in part by forcing 17 Sacramento State turnovers and outrebounding the Hornets 30-26. 01/08 00:34:38 ET Game Notes:
