SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- Brandon Guyton scored 11 of his team-leading 13 points in the first half and Raashad Hooks added 10 points to lead Sacramento State to a 62-47 victory over Dominican Wednesday night at Hornet Gym.

The win improved the Hornets to 1-1 overall this season. Dominican dropped to 4-3.

Both teams got off to a slow start before the Penguins broke a scoreless tie with a basket at the 17:38 mark. Dominican pushed its lead to six, 13-7, with just under 12 minutes left in the half before the Hornets began their comeback. Sacramento State went on a 20-5 run to seize control of the game during a six-minute stretch. In the run, Guyton had eight points, including a pair of three-pointers. Senior Jimmy White gave the team a 12-point lead before Sacramento State entered halftime with a 34-24 advantage.

The Hornets were in control for the entire second half and never led by less than 11 points.

As a team, Sacramento State struggled from the field making 20 of its 52 field goal attempts (38.5 percent). The team also shot 22.2 percent from three-point range (4-18) and 69.2 percent (18-26) from the charity stripe. The Hornets were able to outrebound the Penguins, 42-37, and force Dominican into 22 turnovers with the help of 12 steals.

Individually, Guyton ended the night 5-for-15 from the field, including 3-of-10 from long range. The junior, however, was 4-of-9 in the first half.

Hooks scored six of his 10 points from the free throw line where he was 6-of-7. The senior also added a pair of assists and seven rebounds.

Jimmy White and Derek Lambeth tied for the team lead with eight boards and freshman DaShawn Freeman dished out a game-high four assists.

Dominican was paced by David Moore with 13 points. Moore came off the bench and knocked down 6-of-9 shots. Andrew Ridge led the team with seven rebounds while former Florin HS standout Sam Luong added nine points, three rebounds and three assists.

Sacramento State will next play at Southern Utah on Saturday, Nov. 30. The game will start at 6:05 p.m. PST and can be heard on KTKZ 1380 AM. From there, the Hornets will travel to Coluimbia, Mo., to face No. 18 Missouri on Monday, Dec. 2.
