SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Five Hornets scored in double figures – led by sophomore Alex Bausley’s 18 points and seven rebounds – as Sacramento State defeated Great Falls, 71-49, in a non-conference men’s basketball game Wednesday evening at the Hornets Nest.

Sacramento State, which used a 20-4 run over a 5:24 span of the second half to ice the game, also received a career-high 15 points from junior Aaron Perry to go along with a game-high eight rebounds. Juniors Jason Harris (15 points and a career-high six steals) and DaShawn Freeman (10 points, nine assists, four rebounds and four steals) and senior E.J. Despite shooting a season-worst 36.4 percent (12-33) from the free-throw line, Sacramento State was still able to shoot a season-high 54.0 percent (27-50) from the field. It marked the first time the Hornets have shot better than .500 from the field since the team tallied a 54.7 field-goal percentage against Northern Arizona on Feb. 7, 2004.

With the victory, Sacramento State ended a seven-game losing streak and improved to 2-8 this season. Great Falls, which hails from Great Falls, Mont., dropped to 3-11 with the loss. The Hornets were playing at home for just the fourth time this season, and improved to 2-2 on their home floor.

Great Falls, which was led by James Edwards’ 18 points, shot 36.7 percent (18-49) from the field and was forced into 27 turnovers. Sacramento State’s 14 steals tied a season high as the Hornets outscored the Argonauts by 11 points in both the first and second halves.

After a lay-up from Rico Suazo cut the Great Falls deficit to six points (44-38) with 9:23 remaining in the contest, the Hornets went on a 20-4 run, capped by a three-pointer from Bausley to take a 64-42 lead with 3:59 left in the game. Bausley finished the game with a career-high tying four three-pointers as the forward went 7-of-13 from the field and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Great Falls’ largest lead of the game was three points (7-4) with 15:29 remaining in the first half before the Hornets responded with a 12-2 run to take a 16-9 lead with 11:14 left in the first stanza. The Argonauts would get no closer than within two points of Sacramento State’s lead the rest of the night.

E.J. Harris’ 10 points came on 5-of-5 shooting from the field as the junior also added a steal in 24 minutes. Perry’s 15 points came on 4-of-9 shooting from the field and 7-of-14 from the free-throw line. Jason Harris has now scored at least nine points in every game this season.

After missing three games with a stress fracture in his right foot, senior Jameel Pugh returned to play seven minutes in tonight''s game. The Sacramento, Calif., native finished with two rebounds and a steal in his limited minutes.

Sacramento State has just two more games remaining on its non-conference schedule before jumping into Big Sky play on Jan. 6 at Portland State. The Hornets next travel to Oregon State on Tuesday, Dec. 28, before returning home to face Utah Valley State on Thursday, Dec. 30.
