Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - Justin Davis finished with 17 points and 10
rebounds to lead 20th-ranked Stanford to a 77-59 win over Sacramento State in
the season opener for both teams at Maples Pavilion
Matt Lottich contributed 13 points and eight boards for the Cardinal (1-0),
who won their 16th straight season opener.
Jameel Pugh posted a team-high 18 points for the Hornets (0-1). Joseth Dawson
added 11 points.
Rob Little added 12 points for Stanford, which improved to 73-16 all-time in
season openers.
After DaShawn Freeman's three-pointer got Sacramento State within 11-8 midway
through the first half, Little scored eight straight points for the Cardinal.
However, the Hornets forged a 19-19 tie with 11 straight points.
Stanford then went on a 20-2 run. Davis registered 11 consecutive to trigger
the flurry. Matt Haryasz's layup put the team ahead 39-19.
Sacramento State, which scored eight of the final 10 points of the half to get
within 41-27, pulled within 49-43 midway through the second half on a three-
pointer by Joel Jones.
But the Cardinal responded with a 13-2 run to pull away.
