MEN’S BASKETBALL SIGNS FAIRFIELD HIGH SCHOOL’S JOHN DICKSON
4/15/2009
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State head coach Brian Katz announced the program’s second signee of its 2009-10 recruiting class with the inking of 6-5, 185-pound guard/forward John Dickson, who will enroll as a freshman at the University in the fall.
Dickson joins 6-9, 280-pound prep Dani Lopez, who was signed by the Hornets during the early signing period. Katz and his staff also expect to sign additional student-athletes in the near future.
Dickson, a native of San Francisco, has been a three-year varsity starter at Fairfield High School where he played at shooting guard, small forward and power forward. A two-time first team all-league selection, Dickson was the Falcons’ leading scorer and rebounder last season, averaging 20.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocked shots per game for a Fairfield squad that reached the CIF NorCal Championship semifinals.
In fact, he helped lead the team to three straight NorCal Championship appearances and three consecutive Monticello Empire League titles. In addition, the Falcons have been Div. II Sac-Joaquin Section finalists three years in a row, and the team combined for a 77-22 overall record and a 38-2 league mark over that three-year span.
“John is a very long and athletic wing player with a great ability to score,” Katz said. “He plays very hard, and comes from a tremendous high school program which has been extremely successful during his tenure. He is different from any player we had last year in terms of his length and athleticism, and I’m very excited to add that type of player to our team.”
Dickson, who was this year’s team captain, also becomes the first men’s basketball player in Fairfield High School history to sign a Div. I scholarship following his senior season. As a junior, he averaged 13.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game while helping lead the team to a 28-6 overall record and a 15-0 league mark.
