HORNETS NEST FLOOR REMODEL IS COMPLETE

6/18/2008

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Hornets Nest, which serves as the home facility for Sacramento State’s men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and gymnastics teams, recently had its floor screened, painted and sealed.

The newly designed floor features green baselines and sidelines which surround the playing surface. Each baseline reads “HORNETS” and each sideline reads “COLBERG COURT”, named after recently retired volleyball coach Debby Colberg. At center court is Sacramento State’s new logo, and “SACRAMENTO STATE” is painted into the floor on either side of halfcourt.

The volleyball team plays on a rubberized sport court, which fits perfectly on the floor in between the baselines and sidelines.

The renovated floor also includes new three-point point arcs as mandated by the NCAA for the 2008-09 basketball season. The women’s arc remains at 19’9”, as it previously stood, but the men’s three-point line was moved back to 20’9” for a one year trial period. The women’s line is demarked as a white arc on the Colberg Court floor, while the men’s line is painted in green.

The monthlong project was completed by Boberg Hardwood Floors.

The volleyball team will be the first to play on Colberg Court, when the team hosts the Sacramento State Invitational on Sept. 5-6.
