CAUSEWAY CLASSIC BASKETBALL STYLE TAKES PLACE SATURDAY IN DAVIS

Sacramento State (4-22) and UC Davis (8-20) will play the basketball version of the Causeway Classic this Saturday, March 1, at The Pavilion in Davis...tipoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m...something has to give as Sacramento State enters the game having lost six straight and UC Davis has dropped 11 in a row...the Hornets will be playing their last road game of the season, and are seeking their first win away from home (0-14)...the team has dropped 21 straight on the road dating back to last season...UC Davis is 7-7 at home, but has dropped six straight inside the friendly confines...the Hornets are 61-44 all-time against the Aggies...after the teams went six years without playing each other (1998-04), they renewed their rivalry in 2004-05...the Hornets have won the last two meetings, including a 72-67 win in Davis in 2005-06, and a 100-77 victory in Sacramento last year...the game is worth 10 points in the annual Causeway Cup, an all-sports competition between the two schools that was started over three years ago...a victory on Saturday would give UC Davis enough points to clinch this year’s Causeway Cup championship...the Hornets have won the last two Causeway Cups, Davis won in 2004-05...Saturday’s game will be broadcast live on both KSAC 1240 AM and hornetsports.com with 11th-year play-by-play man Steve McElroy calling all the action...live stats will be offered on ucdavisaggies.com...a webcast will be provided for a fee at bigwest.tv...after Saturday’s game against UC Davis, the Hornets wrap up the 2007-08 season with a home game against Weber State on Monday, March 3...Hornet seniors Jason Davis, Justin Williams and Clark Woods will be honored prior to the game.
