SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The University of Montana opened the second half
on an 18-3 run en route to an 80-57 victory over Sacramento State
Thursday night at Memorial Auditorium.
Trailling, 35-30, at halftime, the Grizzlies shot 71.4 percent in the
second half and outscored the Hornets 50-22 in the final period to
improve to 15-10 overall and 10-4 in the Big Sky Conference. Sacramento
State fell to 9-15 overall and 3-10 in league games.
Four UM players scored in double-digits led by Mike WarhankÃs 24. Jared
Buckmaster added 19, Matt Williams contributed 18 with 12 rebounds and
Shane Christensen poured in 15 with 10 assists.
Sacramento State was led by senior Anthony Flood with 20 points and
eight rebounds. Junior Rame Batta was the only other player to break
double-figures with 18 points.
The Hornets built an early lead in the first half and was able to
extend the lead to 13, 29-16, with 5:57 left in the half. From that
point, the Griz outscored Sacramento State, 14-6 to only trail by five
at intermission.
After Montana opened the second half with a jumper by Buckmaster, Flood
drained a three-pointer to put the Hornets up, 38-32. The Grizzlies then
pulled away by making seven of their next nine shots to build a 48-40
advantage.
In the second half, UM was 20-of-28 from the floor and an amazing
6-of-8 from three-point land.
