MISSOULA, Mont. -- Matt Williams banked in a three-pointer late in the
second half and the University of Montana held Sacramento State
scoreless in overtime to walk away with a 59-47 victory Thursday night
at the Adams Center.
The win improved the Grizzlies to 10-9 overall and 5-3 in the Big Sky
Conference. The Hornets dropped to 8-10 overall and 2-5 in conference
action.
Montana dominated the first half, leading 33-20 at the break.
Sacramento State, however, used great dfense and improved shooting to
rally back in the second period.
The Hornets, who trailled by as many as 13 at the start of the second
half, widdled away at Montana’s lead before taking a one-point
advantage, 43-42, on a Ricky Glenn layup with 3:04 to play.
Montana regained the lead on its next possession only to have Pablo
Gonzales answer with a 15-foot jumper. After a Griz turnover, Gonzales
added another jumper to put Sacramento State ahead, 47-44, with 55
seconds remaining.
The Hornet defense, which forced 18 turnovers in the game, fought off
Montana until just three seconds were left on the shot clock. Willaims
took a pass and hoisted the three-point attempt from the left-wing. The
senior’s shot banked off the backboard and tied the score.
Sophomore Rene Jacques then ran the length of the court, but his layup
rolled off the rim forcing overtime.

first possession and the Hornets were 0-for-8 from the floor. Sacramento
State attempted to keep the score close by putting Montana on the line,
but the Griz made all eight of their attempts to seal the game.
Senior Anthony Flood led the team with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Gonzales and Jacques each addded eight points. Jared Buckmaster paced
Montana with 17 points. Williams added nine points and 15 rebounds.
