MEN’S BASKETBALL SIGNS MORENO VALLEY’S RANDY ADAMS

4/14/2004

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men’s basketball team signed its first player of the spring, forward Randy Adams, to a National Letter on Intent, it was announced today by Hornets’ head coach Jerome Jenkins. Adams will enroll as a freshman at Sacramento State in the fall of 2004.

A 6-9, 220-pound forward, Adams averaged 17.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocked shots and 1.0 steals per game this past season at New York’s Redemption Christian Academy. Adams, who played at Canyon Springs High School in Moreno Valley, Calif., prior to transferring to Redemption, can play both the small and power forward positions.

“Randy is a very agile and athletic forward, and can really get out on the perimeter and defend like a guard,” Jenkins said. “He is a very good defender, a solid rebounder, and a player that will finish around the basket.”

The left-handed Adams was an all-league selection this past season while receiving Redemption’s Most Improved Player award. During his first season at Redemption (2002-03), the Moreno Valley, Calif., native averaged 12.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting 85.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Adams played in the top 20 showcase game (Best of the Best) at the Pumps West Coast All-Star Camp during the summer of 2002. During that same summer, Adams also played at the adidas-sponsored ABCD All-Star camp.

Adams fills one of three remaining scholarships Sacramento State has to offer for next season. The Hornets inked Chaffey Junior College’s Jason Harris during the early signing period (November of 2003). Sacramento State is scheduled to open the 2004-05 season on Friday, Nov. 19, at Michigan.
