DEREK LAMBETH NAMED BIG SKY CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

OGDEN, Utah — Sacramento State senior Derek Lambeth was named co-Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced today. Lambeth shared the award with Montana’s David Bell.

A native of Oakland, Calif., Lambeth single-handedly guided the Hornets to their first Big Sky Conference Tournament berth with a season-high 25 points in the win over Montana State on Saturday. The guard scored 23 of his points in the second half where he also made a career-high five three-pointers on five attempts. He also added three rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots against the Bobcats.

In the team’s game against Montana on Thursday, Feb. 28, Lambeth scored 21 points. Despite shooting just 5-of-16 from the field, Lambeth worked his way to the free-throw line where he made 10-of-11 attempts.

For the week, he averaged 23.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocked shots per game. He also shot .406 (13-32) from the field, including .461 (6-13) from three-point range, and .933 (14-15) from the free-throw line.

Bell earned his share of the award after averaging 25.5 points per game. The senior scored 22 in the win over Sacramento State and added a career-high 29 points in a loss at Northern Arizona. Against NAU, Bell made eight three-pointers.

Lambeth’s award marked the second time this season that a Sacramento State player has been named Big Sky Player of the Week. Senior Jimmy White earned the award on Jan. 13.
