FORMER PLAYERS AND STUDENTS OF COACH KATZ CAN ATTEND DEC. 19 MEN’S HOOPS GAME FOR FREE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento State athletics department is offering free admission to the Hornet men’s basketball team’s Big Sky Conference opener on Dec. 19 to former players or students of head coach Brian Katz.

Sacramento State is taking on Montana State that evening (Wednesday, Dec. 19), and tip-off is 7:05 p.m. Former players and students of Katz are encouraged to contact ticket manager T-Ante Sims at 278-2222 or tsims@csus.edu to get on the pass list for the game.

In addition, a limited supply of Katz Headz will be distributed to fans. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at the Nest.

Katz took over the head coaching duties at Sacramento State on April 10, 2008. His extensive basketball resume includes a 37-year career as a basketball coach at the NCAA Div. I, junior college and high school levels. Among his other head coaching stops include San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, Lassen College in Susanville, Center High School in Antelope, and Casa Roble High School in Orangevale. In addition, he was an assistant at Santa Clara from 1987-89.

Prior to becoming a head coach at the age of 23 at Casa Roble, he was an assistant at Mesa Verde High School in Citrus Heights and Grant High School in Sacramento. Katz graduated from Sacramento State in 1980.

The Hornets are currently 5-3, and do not play again until the Dec. 19 conference opener.
