MEN'S HOOPS SEEKS FIRST 6-1 START IN SCHOOL HISTORY SATURDAY AT ARIZONA STATE
Sacramento State (5-1) will play the first of two remaining non-conference road games on Saturday, Dec. 1, when the team travels to Tempe to take on Arizona State (5-1) of the Pac-12 Conference…tip-off at Wells Fargo Arena is 5:35 p.m. PST…for the second time in 16 days, Sacramento State’s game will be televised live by the Pac-12 Network, which is offered locally by Comcast, SureWest and the Dish Network…the Hornets are looking to make history on Saturday as the team is attempting to become the first in school history (1948-pres.) to begin the season with a 6-1 record…in the 65-year history of the men’s basketball program at Sacramento State, this year’s team is one of only five Hornet squads to begin the year with a 5-1 record, joining the 1952-53, 1987-88, 1988-89 and 1999-00 teams…in addition, the Hornets have won their first two road games of the season for the first time in the Div. I era (1991-pres.)…dating back to last season, the team has won three straight on the road, which is the longest road winning streak since the 1987-88 squad won four straight…one of those road wins came two weeks ago when Sacramento State knocked off a Pac-12 team (Utah) by overcoming a 13-point deficit with 12:27 to play in the second half before winning, 74-71…the Hornets have three players ranked among the Big Sky Conference’s top nine in scoring, comprised of forward John Dickson (1st, 17.3 ppg), point guard Dylan Garrity (8th, 15.2 ppg) and combo guard Mikh McKinney (T-9th, 14.2 ppg)…both Garrity and McKinney are sophomores and form one of the Big Sky’s top back courts…Sacramento State and Arizona State have played just one time with the Sun Devils defeating the Hornets at Wells Fargo Arena, 85-73, on Dec. 16, 1995 (box score on page 9)… the game can be heard live on the internet at www.hornetsports.com with 16th year play-by-play announcer Steve McElroy calling all the action...live stats for the game are also available via www.thesundevils.com.
