MEN'S BASKETBALL RETURNS HOME TONIGHT FOR GAME AGAINST DOMINICAN
Sophomore Mikh McKinney is averaging a team-high 15.2 points per game, the 7th best mark in the Big Sky
Coming off its fourth win of the season, and second on the road, Sacramento State (4-1) returns home to face Dominican (2-2) on Tuesday, Nov. 27…tip-off at the Nest is 7:05 p.m…Tuesday will mark the Hornets’ lone home game until the Big Sky opener against Montana State on Dec. 19…Tuesday will also snap a string of three straight games played against opponents coached by former NBA players (Utah’s Larry Krystkowiak; UC Davis’ Jim Les; Central Arkansas’ Corliss Williamson)…the Hornets’ 4-1 record matches the best start after five games in school history (the 1952-53, 1972-73, 1987-88, 1988-89 and 1999-00 squads also accomplished the feat)…each of those squads except the 1972-73 team started the year 5-1…not only are the Hornets 4-1, the team has also won its first two road games of the season for the first time since joining the Div. I ranks in 1991-92…Sacramento State has four players averaging double figures in points, comprised of Mikh McKinney (15.2 ppg), John Dickson (15.0 ppg), Dylan Garrity (15.0 ppg) and Konner Veteto (10.8 ppg)…Dominican, which is an NCAA Div. II program based in San Rafael, Calif., is currently 2-2 after falling at Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday…all four of their games have been decided by 10 points or less, including two overtime outcomes…Sacramento State and Dominican will be facing each other for the first time since a 76-65 Hornet home win on Nov. 25, 2003…the Hornets are 4-0 all-time against the Penguins as the teams played three straight years from 2001-03…Sacramento State won those four games by an average of 23.0 ppg, although the Penguins have decreased the Hornets’ margin of victory each meeting… like every home game, and each road game played in a Big Sky Conference venue, Tuesday’s contest can be seen live and free on Big Sky TV…the game can also be heard over the airwaves in the foothills on KAHI 950 AM and on the internet at www.hornetsports.com with 16th year play-by-play announcer Steve McElroy calling all the action...live stats for the game are available via www.hornetsports.com.
