Sacramento State will play its second game of the 2012-13 season, and first against a Div. I opponent, when the Hornets host CSU Bakersfield on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m…the Hornets opened the season at home on Friday night when they beat UC Merced by a 96-62 score…UC Merced is an NAIA program…12 of the Hornets’ 14 eligible players made an appearance in the game, and 11 cracked into the scoring column…Wednesday’s game is the second leg of a stretch that will see the Hornets play three of their first four games at home…Wednesday also begins a stretch that will see Sacramento State play three times over a seven-day span, including a game at Utah (Nov. 16) and a home contest against rival UC Davis (Nov. 20)…CSU Bakersfield began its season on Friday night with a 62-60 home loss to UT Arlington, and followed that up with a 78-65 road loss at Cal on Sunday evening…the Roadrunners defeated the Hornets, 63-60, last season in Bakersfield (box score on page 9)…in that game, Sacramento State nearly clawed all the way back from a 21-point second-half deficit and had a chance to tie as the final horn sounded, but had to settle for the three-point loss…the Hornets are just 4-19 all-time against Bakersfield in a series which dates back to the 1971-72 season…Sacramento State has lost six straight to the Roadrunners with the Hornets’ last victory coming in Bakersfield (80-73) midway through the 1988-89 season…Sacramento State was a Div. II member at the time, and made the jump to the Div. I ranks in 1991-92…the Hornets are 0-4 against CSUB during the Div.
