Playing its best basketball of the season, Sacramento State (9-14, 4-8) looks for its fifth straight win on Saturday when the team hosts Montana (18-6, 11-1) at the Nest at 7:05 p.m…after going 0-8 during the first half of Big Sky Conference play, Sacramento State is one of just two league teams to be 4-0 during the second half with Montana being the other…the Hornets increased the winning streak to four games with an 86-76 home win over Montana State on Thursday night…in that game, freshman point guard Dylan Garrity had 16 assists, which were a Div. I-era school record (1991-pres.), tied for the most by a Div. I player this season, and the fourth highest total in Big Sky history…should the Hornets win on Saturday, it would match the team’s longest winning streak during the program’s Div. I era (the 2005-06 squad won five in a row)…the team’s current four-game winning streak is tied for the second longest in the Div. I era…during the winning streak, Sacramento State is outscoring its opposition by an average of 14.8 points per game…with four conference games remaining, the Hornets still sit two games back in the loss column of the Big Sky’s Nos. 3-6 teams Montana State (6-6), Portland State (6-6), Idaho State (6-6), and Eastern Washington (5-6)…the top six teams in the nine-member conference advance to the Big Sky Tournament…Sacramento State is attempting to qualify for the league’s postseason event for the first time since the 2005-06 season…the Grizzlies have won seven straight, and 13 of their last 14 games, including an 85-56 home win over Sacramento State on Jan. 21…Montana owns a 31-5 all-time record (10 straight wins) in the series with Sacramento State…the Hornets’ last win in the series came at home on Jan. 4, 2007 (80-72 victory)…Saturday’s game can be heard on the internet at www.hornetsports.com with 15th year play-by-play announcer Steve McElroy calling all the action…like every game played in a Big Sky venue, a free live video stream is available at www.bigskytv.org…live stats of the game can be found at www.hornetsports.com.
