TRACK & FIELD SETS 24 SEASON BESTS IN FINAL MEET OF REGULAR SEASON

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State track and field programs closed out its regular season by recording 24 season best marks, including three NCAA regional qualifiers and five event champions at the Sacramento State Open on Saturday.
The three NCAA regional qualifiers were Nick Mills in the javelin and Ericka Violett and Lizzy Norvell in the pole vault. Mills improved his season best mark with a throw of 205-07 which places him fourth in school history. Violett and Norvell each tied their career highs — and school record — by clearing 12-07.50. Violett has now recorded that mark in her last four meets while Norvell did it for the second time.
The Hornets five event champions all came on the women's side. Caprice Bradshaw won the 5K, Ashley Chavez the steeplechase, Natalia Wright the triple jump, Ify Agwuenu the shot put and the 4x100 relay team. Sacramento State's 4x100 time of 46.76 seconds was a season best and moved the team into a tie for second in the Big Sky this season.
The meet featured student-athletes from numerous schools throughout Northern California. There were also a handful of unattached and professional competitors, including Olympic gold medalist Stephanie Brown-Trafton who threw 200-05 to win the event title on Saturday by 39-feet, 4-inches.
Sacramento State also honored members of its senior class who were competing in their final home meet. The team will next head to Missoula, Mont., to take part in the Big Sky Championships. The multi events will get under way on Wednesday while the main competition starts on Friday.
