A graduate of Sacramento State, Travis Okamoto begins his second season with the Hornets as the team’s director of basketball operations. He enters his fourth year on head coach Brian Katz’s staff, as Okamoto was an assistant under Katz at San Joaquin Delta College from 2006-08.
At Delta, Okamoto was in charge of working with the guards and assisting with recruiting, scouting and academics. During his two seasons at Delta, the team combined to post a 49-17 overall record and a 20-6 mark in the Big 8 Conference. The Mustangs won at least 22 games and finished second in the conference both years during Okamoto’s tenure.
Prior to his two-year stint at Delta, Okamoto had six years of coaching experience at Sacramento’s Florin High School. From 2003-06, he worked for Marcus McGhee as an assistant with the men’s varsity team. He also coached at Florin during the 2000-01 (assistant boy’s varsity coach), 1999-00 (head junior varsity boy’s coach) and 1998-99 (head freshman boy’s coach) seasons.
From 1994-98, Okamoto was a team manager at Elk Grove High School under head coach Todd Reiswig.
Okamoto graduated from Sacramento State in 2002 with a degree in intercultural and international communications. He obtained his teaching credential (English) from National University.
