The inaugural Sacramento State Men’s Basketball Hall of Fame induction took place on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at the University's Alumni Center The night featured the induction of all 11 players from the 1961-62 squad and head coach Ev Shelton into the Sacramento State Men’s Basketball Hall of Fame. The 1961-62 team became the first-ever class inducted into the men's basketball program’s Hall of Fame. The team finished as the College Division national runner-up after losing to Mount Saint Mary’s, 58-57, in double overtime in the 1962 NCAA national championship game in Evansville, Ind. Upon returning to Sacramento, the team was welcomed by more than 1,000 fans at the airport, and taken on a caravan through downtown Sacramento.
