A three-year starter, Hurts has the ability to play on the end and in the interior…enters fall as one of the scheduled starters at defensive tackle.
2006 Season: Started and played in 10 games as a defensive tackle…finished the season with 29 tackles…23 of his stops were assisted tackles…had eight assists in the victory over Northern Colorado…added six tackles against Portland State and had five against Montana State…recorded at least one stop in nine games…had a 4-yard tackle-for-loss against MSU and was credited with a half tackle-for-loss at Boise State…also recovered a fumble against BSU…blocked a kick vs. Montana State.
2005 Season: Started all 11 games at defensive tackle…ended the year with 14 total tackles…had seven solo and seven assisted stops…season high of two came against Cal Poly, UC Davis, Weber State and Idaho State…had a half-tackle-for-loss at Cal Poly.
2004 Season: Saw action in all 11 games as a defensive tackle…recorded 23 tackles on the season…that total was comprised of 10 solo stops and 13 assists…also had five tackles-for-loss, including a sack…tied for the team lead with two forced fumbles…best game came at UC Davis where he had five solo tackles and three assists (eight total)…had two tackles-for-loss againt the Aggies, including a 4-yard sack…also forced a fumble in that game…had four tackles at NAU and three at Montana.
High School: Graduated from San Leandro High School in 2004…played four years of football for the Pirates…named first team all-Hayward Area Athletic League as a senior and second team as a junior…played on both the offensive and defensive lines…named the team’s most valuable lineman his final two years…earned all-HAAL league honors in the shot put and discus as a junior…also wrestled for one year.
