VOLEK NAMED AFCA DIVISION I-AA PRESIDENT

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State head football coach John Volek

has been promoted to Division I-AA President of the American Football

Coaches Association.

Volek, who is entering his seventh year with the team, served as

Second Vice President last season and was scheduled to move to Vice

President in 2001. However, Hampton's Joe Taylor (last season's I-AA

President) became President of the AFCA and Lehigh's Kevin Higgins

(the 2000 Vice President) was named quarterback coach for the Detroit

Lions opening the way for Volek.

"This is a great honor and I am excited for the opportunity," Volek

said. "I hope I can represent the University and I-AA football well

during my time."

Volek's responsibilities will include running the I-AA meetings at

both the AFCA annual conference and the NACDA meetings in Salt Lake

City later this summer.
