SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State head football coach John Volek
has been promoted to Division I-AA President of the American Football
Coaches Association.
Volek, who is entering his seventh year with the team, served as
Second Vice President last season and was scheduled to move to Vice
President in 2001. However, Hampton's Joe Taylor (last season's I-AA
President) became President of the AFCA and Lehigh's Kevin Higgins
(the 2000 Vice President) was named quarterback coach for the Detroit
Lions opening the way for Volek.
"This is a great honor and I am excited for the opportunity," Volek
said. "I hope I can represent the University and I-AA football well
during my time."
Volek's responsibilities will include running the I-AA meetings at
both the AFCA annual conference and the NACDA meetings in Salt Lake
City later this summer.
