FOOTBALL HEADS TO UC DAVIS FOR 57th CAUSEWAY CLASSIC

11/16/2010

It all comes down to this. With a winning overall record and its best Big Sky Conference finish already secured, the Sacramento State football team will look to keep its NCAA playoff hopes alive when it faces UC Davis on Saturday, Nov. 20, in the annual Causeway Classic. The game kicks off from Aggie Stadium at 4:07 p.m. in the 57th regular-season meeting between the two teams.

Sacramento State heads into the game riding a three game winning streak. The team most recently downed Idaho State, 45-17, to improve to 6-4 overall and 5-3 in the Big Sky. The overall mark guarantees that the Hornets will finish with a winning record for the third time since moving to the Div. I-AA/FCS level in 1993. Sacramento State also matched its best record in conference play.

The latest scoring outburst has lifted Sacramento State to 12th in the FCS in points per game. The team is now averaging 33.7 ppg in its 10 contests which places it second in the Big Sky. However, over the last six games, the Hornets are scoring 40.0 points per game and have posted at least 40 points four times.

Defensively, Zack Nash and Kyle Monson led the team. Nash set the Big Sky and Sacramento State single-game record with five sacks. The junior also tallied six tackles-for-loss which tied the school mark. Monson recorded a career high nine tackles and returned an interception 68 yards for a touchdown.

UC Davis is now 5-5 after a last-minute come-from-behind win at Cal Poly. In the game, the Aggies trailed 21-0 but rallied for the conference victory. Josh Creadick scored the winning touchdown on a pass from Randy Wright with just 35 seconds remaining to complete the comeback.

There will be multiple ways to follow this week’s game. Hornet fans can tune in to KRJY 1240 AM to hear the radio call of Jason Ross, Steve McElroy and Danny Sullivan. Live audio streaming is also available via www.hornetsports.com. The broadcast will begin at 3:30 p.m.

Comcast SportsNet California will televise the game for the third consecutive season. Jim Kozimor will handle the play-by-play and will be joined by Mike Pawlawski (color) and Dan Dibley (sideline).
