FIRST SPRING FOOTBALL SCRIMMAGE TAKES PLACE ON SATURDAY MORNING

4/16/2010

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — After six practices, the Sacramento State football team will conduct its first scrimmage of the spring season on Saturday, April 17, at the practice field located north of the stadium.

The team is expected to take the field at 8 a.m. with live action beginning at 8:30 a.m. Head coach Marshall Sperbeck will run the team through numerous situational drills during the scrimmage. Some of the expected positions for the offense will include red zone, two-minute drill, operating from their own 20-yard line and backed up against their own goal line.

The scrimmage is slated to be full contact, but could vary for some players. Running back Bryan Hilliard, safety Deionte Gordon and receiver Chase Deadder are among those not expected play as they continue to rehab from injury.

Offensively, quarterbacks McLeod Bethel-ThompsonDominic Carmazzi and Pete Murdaca will share time under center. One new face on the offensive side of the ball is Maika Maumau, who was shifted from defensive tackle to offensive guard on Friday.

The defense features several new faces, including junior college transfer Kyle Monson who highlighted the early portion of Friday's practice with an interception and lengthy return. Along with the newcomers, the defense also returns All-American Christian Clark and all-Big Sky selection Zack Nash on the line.

The team's final two scrimmages will come on April 24 and May 1. Both are scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
