2010 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE FEATURES GAME AGAINST STANFORD, THREE NIGHT GAMES

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Matchups against a Pac-10 Conference team and three Football Championship Subdivision playoff participants, as well as three home night games, highlight Sacramento State's 2010 football schedule.

The Hornets open the year on Sept. 4 at Stanford. The game marks the first time that Sacramento State has played the Cardinal but the eighth-straight year in which the team has played a Football Bowl Subdivision opponent. Last season, the Cardinal produced an 8-5 overall record and played in the Sun Bowl.

Sacramento State's home opener will come on Sept. 11 against Western Oregon at 6:05 p.m. The Div. II Wolves were 5-5 in 2009 with competitive losses to Eastern Washington and UC Davis. The game will be the first played on Hornet Stadium's new synthetic surface.

Back-to-back games against FCS playoff teams start Big Sky Conference action for the Hornets. The team hosts Weber State on Sept. 18 at 6:05 p.m. before traveling to Montana on Sept. 25.

On Oct. 2, Sacramento State will hold its final night game of the year against Montana State. The following week, Northern Colorado comes to town for Homecoming at 2:05 p.m.

The Hornets close out October with road games at Eastern Washington (Oct. 23) and Northern Arizona (Oct. 30). EWU also competed in the FCS playoffs last season and will debut its new red turf during the year.

The final home game will take place on Nov. 6 when Sacramento native, and first year head coach, Nigel Burton brings Portland State to Hornet Stadium.

Sacramento State will then play at Idaho State on Nov. 13 before making the short trip across the Yolo Causeway for the 57th Causeway Classic against UC Davis on Nov. 20 at 2 p.m.

The Hornets return 16 starters from last season's team which ended the year by winning three of their final four and five of their last eight games. The season was capped with a thrilling 31-28 win over UC Davis.
