AUGIE HEATH NAMED BIG SKY SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
11/2/2009
OGDEN, Utah — Sacramento State punter Augie Heath was named the Big Sky Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced today. The honor is the second for Heath this season.
In the Hornets' 27-24 upset victory over then-No. 21 Northern Arizona, Heath started his day with a fake punt in which he rushed for 18 yards to earn a first down and set up the team’s first score.
For the rest of the game, he had five punts for an average of 41.6 yards per kick. More impressively, four of his five punts were downed inside the 20-yard line and his fifth ended at the 20. Heath’s most important punt came in the final minutes where he pinned NAU at the 4 for its final drive. That drive ended with a 55-yard game-tying field goal attempt which missed wide right. The Chico, Calif., native also had a 51-yard punt in the game.
Earlier this season, the sophomore was named the Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week after landing five punts inside the 20 at Portland State.
This year, he has three kicks of 50-yards or more, including a 51-yarder against NAU, and has 14 punts downed inside the 20-yard line.
Another award winners this week included Montana running back Chase Reynolds who rushed for 241 yards and a touchdown in a win over Weber State. The Defensive Player of the Week award went to Eastern Washington linebacker Matt Johnson who intercepted four passes to tie a conference record.
Sacramento State will play at Northern Colorado on Sat., Nov. 7. The team's next home game will come against UC Davis on Nov. 21 at 2 p.m.
