ASSOCIATED PRESS NAMES ROBERTS, DAISLEY TO I-AA ALL-AMERICA TEAM

12/14/2000

NEW YORK - Sacramento State seniors Charles Roberts and

Anthony Daisley were each named to the Associated Press NCAA Div.

I-AA All-America team, the wire service announced today. Roberts was

placed on the second team while Daisley earned third team honors.

Roberts, who is now a three-time All-American, became the

most prolific rusher in NCAA Division I-AA history and ended his

career with 5,633 yards. The Montclair, Calif., native rushed for

1,624 yards and 14 touchdowns to help lead the Hornets to a 7-4

overall record and a 5-3 mark in the Big Sky Conference this past

season. During his four-year career, Roberts set or tied nine

national records, eight Big Sky marks and 20 Sacramento State

records. The 5-6 tailback owns the national single-game (409 yards),

single-season (2,260 in 1998) and career (6,533) records. Roberts,

who was named co-Most Valuable Player of the Big Sky in 2000, was an

AP second-team All-American in 1998 and a first team selection last

year.

Daisley completed his second year with the Hornets by leading

the team with 100 tackles. The Rialto, Calif., native was a first

team all-Big Sky selection after recording 19 tackles-for-loss

including six sacks. The outside linebacker becomes just the second

Sacramento State defensive player to earn I-AA All-America honors -

joining linebacker Ryland Wickman who was also named to the third

team in 1998. Daisley ended the year with 70 unassisted tackles, two

forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one safety.

Joining Roberts and Daisley on the All-America team were nine

Big Sky Conference players. Montana quarterback Drew Miller,

offensive lineman Thatcher Szalay and defensive lineman Andy Petek

were all named to the first team. The trio was joined on the first

team by Portland State running back Charles Dunn and Eastern

Washington defensive lineman Jeff Allen. Cornerback Rashad Floyd of

Portland State was placed on the second team. Punter Dan Frantz also

of PSU, Montana wide receiver Jimmy Farris and EWU defensive lineman

Dario Romero were named to the third team.
