FORMER HORNET AARON GARCIA NAMED AFL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

5/17/2007

After only three weeks back in the game, the Arena Football League announced that New York Dragons quarterback Aaron Garcia was named Offensive Player of the Week.

In last Monday night's 69-49 victory over the Philadelphia Soul, Garcia completed 22-of-34 passes for 264 yards and eight touchdowns with no interceptions.

"It is just great to be back period and just being able to play," said Garcia. "Anything else at this point is just icing on the cake. It was a great team victory for us and hopefully something we can build on from here."

Garcia returned three weeks ago after being out for more than a year with a fractured tibia suffered in Week Five of the 2006 season. In three games, Garcia has recorded 68 of 105 attempts for 800 yards and 20 touchdowns with three interceptions. Now in his 13th season, he has totaled 777 touchdowns and 36,902 career passing yards.

Garcia played two seasons with the Hornets (1992-93) and currently ranks 10th in school history with 2,468 passing yards. His 19 career touchdown passes are tied for 10th in the school record book. His professional career began with the Arizona Rattlers of the AFL. He has also had stints with the Connecticut Coyotes, New Jersey Red Dogs and Iowa Barnstormers in the league. Garcia also attended training camp with the San Francisco 49ers before returning to the Dragons three years ago.

Garcia will play on a national stage in just under two weeks as the Dragons travel to New Orleans to face the VooDoo on ESPN2 on Monday, May 28, at 8:00 p.m. ET.
