FOOTBALL ANNOUNCES 2006 SCHEDULE

2/10/2006

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Games against Boise State and NCAA Div. I-AA playoff teams Cal Poly, Eastern Washington and Montana highlight the 2006 Sacramento State football schedule which was announced today. The slate features five home games and six road contests beginning with the Thur., Aug. 31, matchup at Boise State.

The game against the Broncos will mark the fifth-straight season in which the Hornets have opened their season against a Div. I-A opponent. The contest will also signify the first meeting between the two schools. Last year, Boise State posted a 9-4 overall record and reached the MPC Computers Bowl. A former Big Sky Conference member, the Broncos won seven league titles between 1973 and 1994.

Following an open week, Sacramento State will host Cal Poly on Sept. 16. The Mustangs advanced to the second round of the Div. The team returns to Sacramento for a pair of conference games against Weber State (Oct. 7) and Montana State (Oct. 14). The game against WSU will serve as the University’s Homecoming.

On Oct. 21, the Hornets travel to Northern Arizona where they have been victorious in three of their last four trips. Northern Colorado comes to Hornet Stadium on Oct. 28 for its first meeting against Sacramento State. The Bears, who are in their third season of Div. I-AA, are moving to the Big Sky in 2006.
