SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State football team announced the signing of three junior college players to National Letters of Intent. The trio is comprised of quarterback Tim Brockwell, fullback John Alanis and center Kyle Leitzke. All three will enroll at the University prior to the spring semester and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.“All three of these signees are in positions of need,” head coach Steve Mooshagian said. “These were the top players at their positions that we evaluated as an offensive staff. They help fill the void at key positions offensively and were all were actively recruited by other Div. I-A and I-AA schools. We are very excited that they choose to be a part of the Sacramento State program.”
Brockwell and Alanis teamed at Glendale Community College in Glendale, Ariz., over the last two seasons. This past year, the pair helped lead the Gauchos to an 11-0 overall record and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national title. Glendale also earned the Dirty 30 national title from JCGridiron.com. To earn that honor, they were voted ahead of California Community College champion Grossmont.
Brockwell had a stellar year for Glendale, completing 155 of 246 passes during the team’s 10 regular season games. During that span, he also threw for 2,255 yards, 18 touchdowns and four interceptions. Those numbers helped him earn NJCAA Region I Offensive Player of the Year and Western State Football League Offensive Player of the Year.
In the team’s Valley of the Sun Bowl victory over Grand Rapids Community College, the 6-foot-2, 240-pounder was 17-of-30 for 324 yards and two touchdowns.
Prior to attending Glendale, Brockwell was a standout quarterback at Sinagua High School in Flagstaff, Ariz.
A versatile athlete, Alanis (5-11, 225 lbs.) earned all-WSFL honors in 2005 as a fullback. During the season, he caught 30 passes for 351 yards and a touchdown. His freshman season, he was a starter at outside linebacker before making the transition to the offensive side of the ball.
A graduate of Greenway High School in Phoenix, Ariz., Alanis helped lead the team to a pair of Arizona 4A second-place finishes. He was named first team all-region as a linebacker following his junior season and was all-state his senior year. That year, he had 86 unassisted tackles and also rushed for eight scores as a running back.
Leitzke comes from Palomar JC in San Marcos, Calif. A two-year starter, he began his career as a guard but shifted to center in 2005. As a sophomore, the 6-1, 290-pounder helped lead the way for two running backs who each gained nearly 500 yards in 10 games. With the Comets, he was a team captain and was named honorable mention all-league despite playing in just two league games.
Leitzke graduated from Rancho Buena Vista High School where he was named first team all-Palomar League and was a team captain as a senior.
