FOOTBALL CLOSES SEASON AGAINST NO. 3 MONTANA ON SATURDAY
Sacramento State will conclude its 2005 football season on Saturday, Nov. 12, when the Hornets host 3rd-ranked Montana. The game against the Grizzlies will kick off at 4:05 p.m. at Hornet Stadium. Prior to the start, Sacramento State will honor 14 seniors who will be playing their final collegiate game.
The contest can be heard locally on KTKZ 1380 AM and 105.5 FM with Jason Ross handling the play-by-play and Steve McElroy adding the color commentary. San Jose SaberCat head coach, and former Hornet defensive lineman, Darren Arbet will serve as the sideline reporter. For those outside the greater Sacramento area, the game will also be available on the internet at www.hornetsports.com.
The game will also be televised by KPAX in Missoula. Jeremy Jorgensen will serve as the play-by-play announcer and Dave Guffey is the color analyst. Satellite coordinates will be provided later in the week.
The Hornets enter the week with a 2-8 overall record and a 1-5 mark in Big Sky Conference games. The team led 14-10 in the second quarter at Montana State but allowed the Bobcats to score 27-unanswered points which put MSU ahead to stay en route to a 37-16 victory.
Kris Daniels and Matt Logue each had big days to lead Sacramento State. Daniels, who was filling in for the injured Ryan Mole, rushed for a career-high 132 yards and two touchdowns to keep the offense moving. Logue was everywhere on both defense and special teams. The senior had a game-high 11 tackles, including 10 solos, and also had 2.5 tackles-for-loss, a half of a safety, an interception and two fumble recoveries.
Despite not scoring an offensive touchdown, Montana (7-2, 4-1) still managed to shut out Northern Arizona, 23-0, last week. The Grizzlies blocked a punt and returned it for a score and also intercepted a pass and took it all the way for a touchdown. Montana also scored three field goals.
The all-time series has been dominated by Montana. The Grizzlies are 10-0 all-time against the Hornets and are the only Big Sky school Sacramento State has yet to defeat. Last season, UM downed the Hornets, 52-21.
The Hornets are 5-7 in their home finale since moving to Div. I-AA in 1993.
