Coming off a 41-19 win over Azusa Pacific, the Sacramento State football team returns to Big Sky Conference action this Saturday, Oct. 15, as the Hornets travel to Weber State. The game against the Wildcats will kick off at 12:05 p.m. PDT at Stewart Stadium in Ogden, Utah.
The contest can be heard locally on KTKZ 1380 AM and 105.5 FM with Jason Ross handling the play-by-play and Steve McElroy adding the color commentary. For those outside the greater Sacramento area, the game will also be available on the internet at www.hornetsports.com.
The Hornets enter the game with a 2-4 overall record following the win over Azusa Pacific. The team, however, is 1-1 in Big Sky Conference games and is currently tied for fourth. Montana and Montana State both stand at 2-0 while Eastern Washington is 2-1. Weber State and Idaho State are both 1-2 while Northern Arizona rounds out the league standings at 0-3.
This week’s game could allow the Hornets the chance to accomplish three major milestones. A win over Weber State would mark the first time that Sacramento State has ever won in Ogden. It would also be the first road win for the team under Steve Mooshagian and would complete the first three-game winning streak since the team moved to Div. I-AA in 1993.
Last week, the Hornets overcame a sluggish start and exploded in the second quarter for a school record 27 points to take control of the game en route to a 41-19 win over Azusa Pacific. Ryan Mole rushed for 202 yards and two touchdowns while Chris Hurd enjoyed his second straight three-touchdown performance.
Weber State enters the week with a 2-4 overall mark and a 1-2 record in Big Sky games. The Wildcats have suffered two straight losses at the hands of Montana and Montana State. In both games, the team has let fourth-quarter leads slip away. Last week against MSU, the Wildcats held a 24-10 lead but the Bobcats capped their comeback with a field goal with 10 seconds remaining to win 27-24.
The game will mark the 10th meeting all-time between the two schools. Weber State holds a 6-3 advantage in the series and is a perfect 4-0 against the Hornets at home.
