FOOTBALL OPENS SPRING PRACTICE ON FEB. 24
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State football team will open its spring practice on Thursday, Feb. 24. The team will hold 15 practices, including the spring game on Saturday, March 12.
Weekday practices are scheduled to be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays beginning at 3:30 p.m. The team will also hold two Saturday scrimmages. The first will take place on March 5 at 7 a.m. The second will come on March 12 at 10 a.m. inside the stadium.
Sacramento State returns 16 starters from last season. Offensively, running back Ryan Mole will lead the way. The Santa Maria, Calif., native was co-Big Sky Newcomer of the Year and led the team in rushing with 858 yards in nine games. The offense will also have its entire starting line back in 2005, but the unit will be protecting a new starting quarterback. This spring, senior Brad Tredway and sophomore Crosby Wehr will share time under center.
Defensively, the Hornets return two starters on the line, two at linebacker and three in the secondary. The line is guided by Jacob Houston who paced the team with 10 sacks last year. Linebacker Matt Logue is the team’s leading returning tackler with 89 stops last season, including 14 for loss. In the secondary, safeties Brett Shelton and Brent Webber both come back, as does cornerback Brandon Smith.
