SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State football team announced today that 15 players have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Hornets this upcoming season. The group consists of nine players who will enroll at the University in the fall and six players who are currently attending Sacramento State after transferring midyear.“Overall, we helped ourselves in some key areas” head coach Steve Mooshagian said. “Tight end and defensive line were two of our top priorities and we significantly improved there.
“This class is much smaller than what we brought in last year, but has the potential to be just as effective.”
The six midyear transfers are comprised of three junior college transfers and three Div. I-A transfers. The I-A transfers include cornerback Kiel McDonald and wide receiver Gabe Hatchett who both played at Sacramento City College before transferring to Arizona and Toledo, respectively.
Of the nine players who will come in the fall, seven will be true freshmen while the other two are junior college transfers. The group includes five offensive players, one defensive player and three athletes than can play on both sides of the ball. Among the offensive players are two quarterbacks, Tim Bessolo and Brett McLennan. The offensive class also includes Mooshagian’s son, Bobby, who will play receiver.
Below is a list of the entire recruiting class. Biographies on the players follow on the next three pages.
