SAN FRANCISCO — Fred Amey caught the football in each of his 42 career games as a Sacramento State Hornet. Saturday, Amey donned the green and gold for the final time and ended his collegiate career with the same consistency he has shown over the past four years as the Union City, Calif., native caught two passes for 44 yards in the East-West Shrine Game, Saturday afternoon at SBC Park.Amey caught both of his passes in the first half, including a spectacular diving catch which drew the praises of ESPN commentators Sean McDonough and Bob Davie. On the West’s first drive, Amey caught a 27-yard pass from Oregon State’s Derek Anderson for the team’s first completion of the game. That catch helped spark a drive which resulted in a 1-yard touchdown from Utah’s Parris Warren.
In the second quarter, Amey laid out near the sideline and extended to grab a pass from Hawaii’s Timmy Chang for a 17-yard completion.
Overall, Amey’s West team came out on the short end of a 45-27 game. His 44 receiving yards were the third most on the team and the fifth most in the game.
