FRED AMEY NAMED THIRD-BEST RECEIVER IN DIV. I-AA BY THE SPORTS NETWORK

6/21/2004

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State’s Fred Amey was named the third-best wide receiver in NCAA Div. I-AA by The Sports Network, it was announced today. The listing was compiled by Tony Moss, the Executive Director of I-AA Football for the Sports Network.

Amey will return for his senior season in the fall. The Union City, Calif., native already holds the school career record for receiving yards, receptions and touchdowns. Amey has 2,863 career receiving yards and is on pace to move into the all-time top 10 in I-AA history.

During his three seasons with the Hornets, Amey has caught at least one pass in each of the 31 games in which he has played. A versatile player, he has also returned punts and kicks for the team throughout the past two years. Last season, Amey tallied 1,689 all-purpose yards to lead the Big Sky Conference for the second-straight year. Following the season, he was named first team all-Big Sky for the second time. If Amey is able to earn the honor in 2004, he will join Charles Roberts as the only Sacramento State football players to be three-time first team selections.

The Hornets open their 2004 season at Nevada on Sept. 11. The team’s first home game will come the following week against Southern Utah. For ticket information, call (916) 278-2222.
