MICCO NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

EUGENE, Ore. --- Sacramento State junior football player Kelly Micco was named first team CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII, it was announced today. Micco, who was a second team selection team last year, is the first Hornet to earn first team honors since the program moved to Div. I-AA in 1993.

The team was voted on by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) members from within District VIII. The district is comprised of all Div. I-A and Div. I-AA programs in the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington as well as the province of British Columbia. As a first team selection, Micco automatically advances to the national ballot which will be released Dec. 1.

A graduate of Jesuit High School in Sacramento, Micco started the first 10 games of the season for Sacramento State at defensive end before missing the season finale due to illness. In those 10 games, he tallied 29 total tackles, including eight for loss. Micco also had five sacks, the second best total on the team.

Academically, he is majoring in finance and has a 3.32 grade point average. Micco was one of four defensive lineman named to the first team.
