MOOSHAGIAN MAKES HIS FIRST MOVES AS HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

1/21/2003

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State head football coach Steve Mooshagian began shaping his coaching staff by opting not to renew the contacts of offensive coordinator Bruce Pielstick and defensive coordinator Lou Patrone, it was announced today.

Mooshagian, who was hired on Jan. 15, also announced that running backs coach Bob Visger would be reassigned to the team’s strength and conditioning program and administrative assistant Jerry Kushner would not return.

Pielstick recently completed his eighth season with the Hornets as the team’s quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. Pielstick came to Sacramento State after spending seven seasons as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Fresno City College. He also worked as the offensive coordinator at Walla Walla Community College in Washington.

Patrone was the veteran of the Sacramento State staff, serving 15 seasons. He was the team’s defensive coordinator for the past nine seasons and the secondary coach for 14 years. Prior to working with the Hornets, Patrone coached at Fontana High School. He played collegiately at San Jose State from 1982-84.

Visger has been a member of the Sacramento State coaching staff for the past nine seasons. During his tenure, he has coached tight ends, defensive backs and running backs while also serving as the team strength and conditioning coach and travel coordinator.

Mooshagian plans to serve as the offensive coordinator for the 2003 season, but has yet to announce the hiring of any additional coaches.
