KELLY MICCO NAMED TO VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State sophomore Kelly Micco was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VIII football team, it was announced today. Micco was voted to the second team and was one of just six linebackers to earn the honor in a division which included all NCAA Div. I-A and I-AA programs.

Micco currently owns 3.35 gpa while majoring in business at Sacramento State. This season, he ranks third on the team with 48 tackles while starting nine of the team’s 10 games. He is third on the team with eight tackles-for-loss, including one sack, and also has a fumble recovery. Earlier this season against Cal Poly, Micco intercepted a pass and returned it six yards for a touchdown in the team’s victory.

To be eligible for the award, a player must have appeared in at least 50 percent of his team’s games, have over a 3.20 gpa and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the institution. The team was voted on by CoSIDA members from within the District VIII states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington, and the province of British Columbia.
