FORMER QUARTERBACK TONY CORBIN SIGNS WITH WINNIPEG

5/15/2002

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Former Sacramento State quarterback Tony Corbin signed a free-agent contract with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the team announced today.

Corbin is no stranger to the Candian Football League, having played with the B.C. Lions last season. In Winnipeg, he will join fellow Hornet alumni Troy Mills, Charles Roberts and Ryland Wickman.

Following his senior season at Sacramento State, Corbin was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the seventh round of the NFL draft. After being released, he had stints with the Portland Forest Dragons, New York CityHawks and Florida Bobcats of the Arena Football League. He also played with the Frankfurt Galaxy and Rhein Fire of NFL Europe as well as a stint in the German Football League. Corbin returned to North America last season where he completed 51-of-95 passes for 762 yards and four touchdowns with the B.C. Lions.

He will compete with former UC Davis quarterback and reigning CFL MVP, Khari Jones, as well as former Cal quarterback Pat Barnes for the starting job with the Blue Bombers.
