SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The 2001 Causeway Classic Luncheon will have a professional feel this year as former NFL players John Gesek and Rolf Benirschke are both scheduled to speak. The annual luncheon will be held on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 12 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel on Arden Way.The two players, who led Sacramento State and UC Davis, respectively, will speak on their memories of the game. Gesek was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in 1986 and also played professionally for the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins. While in Dallas, he was a member of the Cowboys’ Super Bowl championship teams in 1992 and 1993.
Like Gesek, Benirschke was also drafted by the Raiders out of college. However, prior to the start of the season, Benirschke was sent to the San Diego Chargers where he enjoyed a long career. A member of the Chargers’ Hall of Fame, Benirschke is remembered for kicking the winning field goal in the team’s overtime playoff victory over the Miami Dolphins in 1981.
Also scheduled to speak at the event are Sacramento State head coach John Volek and UC Davis head coach Bob Biggs. Each school will also have a group of select players in attendance along with both marching bands.

The 48th-annual Causeway Classic will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27. The game will begin at 6:05 p.m. and will be held at Fred Anderson Field (Hornet Stadium) on the Sacramento State campus.
