BLOOMFIELD, SAFRON, DAVIS EARN FOOTBALL MVP HONORS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State football team presented its annual team award on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Alumni Center. Along with the individual awards, the coaching staff honored each of the team's 12 seniors.

Senior John Bloomfield was honored as the team MVP and his award was received by his father, Pulu. Head coach Marshall Sperbeck described Bloomfield as the team's most valuable person, citing his leadership skills and work ethic. Bloomfield appeared in the first game of the season against New Mexico State where he had three tackles. He passed away on Oct. 21.

Quarterback Garrett Safron and linebacker Todd Davis were presented the team's offensive and defensive MVPs, respectively. Safron threw for 22 touchdowns and set the school single-season record for completion percentage. Davis was the leading tackler with 103 tackles.

	Team MVP - John Bloomfield • Recorded three tackles at New Mexico State, including a half-tackle for loss • Earned the start at defensive end in that game • Played in all 11 games a year ago • Was an essential member of nearly every special team
	Ray Clemons Award - Jeff Badger • Ends his career ranked 13th in school history with 206 career tackles • Tallied 79 tackles as a senior with 5.5 tackles-for-loss • Led the team with three forced fumbles and tied for second with two interceptions • Earned Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week honors after intercepting a pass during the final drive at Southern Utah • Played in all 44 games during his career, starting the final 33 • As a freshman, he earned the start at running back at Northern Colorado and finished with 75 yards and a touchdown
	Offensive MVP - Garrett Safron • Set the school record with 246 completions and a .642 completion percentage • Ranks second in single-season attempts (383) and touchdowns (22) • His 2,540 yards place him third in school history • Set the Sacramento State single-game record with 37 completions and 67 attempts against UC Davis • Also rushed for 377 yards and two touchdowns on the year • Had four 300-yard passing games • Was twice named Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week
	Defensive MVP - Todd Davis • Led the team with 103 total tackles • Is the first Hornet linebacker to have 100-plus tackles since Cyrus Mulitalo in 2006 • His 13.5 tackles-for-loss were the most on the team • Ranked third among Hornets with 3.5 sacks • Had a team-high four quarterback hurries • Heading into his senior season he ranks 10th in school career history with 220 tackles
	Most Inspirations - Markell Williams • Finished the year ranked fourth on the team with 69 tackles • Had 5.0 tackles-for-loss, including 2.5 sacks, and a pair of interceptions • Started every game this year at nickelback
	Most Improved - T.J. Knowles • After catching one pass in 2011, Knowles hauled in 38 passes for 381 yards • Ranked second on the team with five receiving touchdowns • Caught a touchdown pass in four straight games • Had the most TDs by a Hornet tight end since 1999
	Special Teams MVP - Sam McCowan • Ends his career  fourth in school history in career history with 1,357 kickoff return yards • Is tied for second with 61 career kickoff returns • Made six tackles this season on special teams • Ranks 19th in school history with 953 rushing yards
	Outstanding Defensive Back - Ryan McMahon • Ranked second on the team with 97 total tackles • Had 50 solo tackles • Also finished with 3.0 tackles-for-loss and 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception • Finishes his career ranked 20th in school history with 183 tackles despite playing just two years
	Outstanding Offensive Back - Ezekiel Graham • Paced the team with 861 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns • Also caught 40 passes for 406 yards and two TDs • His 1,302 all-purpose yards were also the most on the team • Recorded three 100-yard rushing games
	Outstanding Defensive Lineman - Matt Lawrence • Tallied 25 tackles, including 7.5 tackles-for-loss • Ranked second on the team in TLFs • Had three sacks during the year • Started every game during the last two seasons, including the final 30 of his career
	Outstanding Offensive Lineman - Clay DePauw • Started every game at center this season • Finished his career with 28 starts, including 25 straight
