SACRAMENTO STATE MOURNS THE PASSING OF JOHN BLOOMFIELD
The University is mourning the loss of student-athlete John Bloomfield.
“John Bloomfield’s passing has brought a profound sadness to Sacramento State,” said President Alexander Gonzalez. “He was a tremendous representative of our University and a beloved member of the Hornet football team. My thoughts are with his family, friends, teammates and fellow students.”
Said Director of Athletics Terry Wanless of John, who was a defensive lineman: “We have lost a member of our family. John was a young man who brightened the lives of all those he touched. He was a great example of someone who took on the challenges of life and found a way to make it better.”
“My thoughts and prayers are with John’s family,” said Head Coach Marshall Sperbeck. “Our football team is saddened by the loss of one of our leaders. John was an outstanding person, player and teammate who will leave a lasting impression on all of us."
Memorial services are pending.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to assist the family. All funds collected in memory of John Bloomfield will be distributed to the Bloomfield family. These funds are not a donation to Sacramento State.
