SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State football continued to add to its 2012 recruiting class with the signings of kicker Edward Ruhnke and offensive lineman Mark Knapp.
Ruhnke comes to Sacramento State after playing one season at Moorpark JC. In his first collegiate season, Ruhnke made 12-of-15 field goal attempts and ranked second on the team with 64 points. Ruhnke was 12-of-13 on field goals inside 40-yards and had a long of 42 in two different games. The Bayville, N.J., native was named West Conference Player of the Week during the season after making four first-half field goals at Long Beach City JC.
Knapp is a 6-foot-5, 300-pound native of Pinon Hills, Calif. As a senior at Serrano HS in Phelan, Calif., Knapp earned all-Southern Section, all-San Bernardino County, all-high desert and all-Mojave River League. As a starter at right tackle, he helped lead the Diamondbacks to three league titles. Knapp was also named the school's student-athlete of the year and was a four-year member of the honor roll.
"We are very fortunate that players of this caliber were available at this time," Sacramento State head coach Marshall Sperbeck said. "Edward will be able to come in and provide some immediate competition at kicker and Mark has a lot of potential at guard and tackle."
The pair join 22 other student-athletes who signed National Letters of Intent with the Hornets this spring.
Sacramento State begins its spring practice on March 28. Scrimmages are tentatively set for April 7, 14 and 21.
