WACO, Texas — Sacramento State defensive end Zack Nash was selected to the American Football Coaches Association All-America team, it was announced today.
The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. The teams are selected exclusively by head coaches and consist of only 11 players on both offense and defense as well as four specialists. Nash becomes just the third Hornet to earn AFCA honors in Sacramento State's Div. I-era — joining running back Charles Roberts (1999) and kick returner Fred Amey (2004).
Nash recently completed his senior season where he earned first team all-Big Sky Conference honors and was named the team's MVP. The Vacaville, Calif., native led the team with 15.0 tackles-for-loss, including 10.5 sacks. Nash also had forced three fumbles, broke up a pair of passes and blocked a kick.
For his career, Nash tallied 170 total tackles with 40.5 for loss and a school record 29.5 sacks. He was a two-time all-Big Sky first team selection and earned second team All-America honors from The Sports Network and Associated Press a year ago.
