Bio: Former Hornet player Steve Roberson returns for his third season as a member of the coaching staff and his first as a full-time coach. This year, Roberson will coach the outside linebackers while working closely with defensive coordinator Lou Baiz.
   
Roberson was the team’s defensive graduate assistant for the past two seasons. While working in that capacity, he was part of a staff which saw the unit improve dramatically.
   
In 2004, Roberson served as the assistant defensive backs coach under then coordinator Tim Skipper. That unit saw all four of its starters earn postseason honors led by Ramon Payne who was named first team all-Big Sky. Safety Brett Shelton garnered second team all-league honors and was also named first team Freshman All-America. Cornerback Brandon Smith and safety Brent Webber were each named honorable mention all-Big Sky. Webber also earned honorable mention Freshman All-America honors.
   
Last season, Roberson worked under secondary coach Stephon Pace. That unit had three players earn postseason honors. The trio was highlighted by Shelton who garnered second team all-West Region honors as well as second team all-Big Sky. Smith and Webber were named honorable mention. Smith later went on to attend minicamp with the Detroit Lions.
   
As a player, Roberson competed for the Hornets during the 2003 season. That year, he played at linebacker and on special teams. Prior to coming to Sacramento State, Roberson played the 2001 season at West Los Angeles Junior College. Before that, he spent two years at San Diego State.
   
A native of Los Angeles, he graduated from St. Bernard High School in 1999. Roberson earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering in December of 2005.
